Explanation of what's in here:

Fighting/Defense -- A description of how that character performs in combat

Special -- description of that character's special combat option

Magic -- General types of spells they can learn, and notes any unique ones

Shamans -- List of specials, and good non-special combos; for the special forms, assume attack, defense, vigor, AP, and wisdom are all raised, unless I say otherwise.  Note that in combos where only one of the shamans is an absolute must, using Water as the optional shaman raises the AP, using Fire raises the Attack gain, using Wind raises the Vigor gain, using Holy results in no special gain, and Devil raises the AP.  Gains are calculated by multiplying Strength, Wisdom, Stamina, Agilty, or AP by a percentage, and adding the result of this to the appropiate area.

Field -- Any special things they can do while traveling; assumes the character in question is in the lead of the walking order

At level 40 -- Quick discription of what they are capable of at the end of the game; an attack power rating of average is about 60 points less than Ryu equiped with the Empire Sword

Note:  Deficiencies in the Fighting/Defense part can usually be overcome with a suffcient number of PARs -- Permanent Attribute Raiser.  The PARs are PwrFood, LuckCandy, Dinker, Stamina, Guts Ball, and MisoSoup, and they all can be made by the cook-carpenter.
